P5(c)Legal and ethical issues

Legal and Ethical Issue (C)

Copyright
Copyright is a law giving complete ownership and  rights to the makers of the original pieces of media . This allows them to have completed control on how the pieces of work are used, distributed and shared.

Mean & Purpose
Copyright is a legal right made by the government of a country that gives the creator of orginal work exclusive rights to its use and distribution, usually for a limited time.

Copyright Basics
the owners of copyright have five rights. These are the right to share and replicate the work, the right to display publicly, and the ability to make similar or sequel works (e.g. translations, new editions).

Copyright owners possess five exclusive (not absolute) rights. These include the right to distribute and reproduce the work, the right to publicly display or perform the work, and the right to create derivative works (e.g. translations, new editions). Despite these rights, users have rights too. The extent and nature of users’ rights vary with the circumstances. Sometimes users need to get permission and pay required royalties, sometimes they don’t.

Copyright Myths and Misconceptions
Myths
1. Copyright is not for protecting ideas as such but protecting the expression of ideas. when you wanted to protect the idea you should use a secrecy agreement.

2. Copyright owners automatically get copyright for there media. Rights begin at the moment of creation because the law says so.

3. A copyright notice is not needed. previously the law required it but not anymore. although hardly anyone know this getting a notice is a good idea. .

4. Registration is not a necessity but it has its advantages but it’s not required.

5. purchasing the copy of a copyright protected item is not the same  as actually owning the copyrights. Owning the copy is basically renting an house. You bought the right to use it.

Classification
One legal step that needs to be considered when releasing the  Harry Potter movies must be certification. The BBFC must consider the story and script in the Harry Potter philosopher stone looking at aspects such as swearing, sexual references, violence and harmful content to young audiences. The movie has been certificated Parental Guidance, so the movies is ok for general viewing although parts might seem inappropriate for children. A PG movie shouldn't upset some one aged eight or above but Parents must think and see if the content will upset there children

The movies classification means a diverse group of audiences are allowed to watch the movie. this impertinent because the books and films are made for children, its vital the production does not have excessive violence as means the certification would be higher.
Plagiarism basics
copying work and passing it off as your own and not referencing where you found it.

Harry potter

One issue that must be thought about before warner brothers distribute the Harry Potter movies is the  certification. The BBFC must consider the content in the Harry Potter and the philosopher stone they must check for sexual references, violence, swearing these could potentially be harmful to young audiences. harry potter was given the rating PG , This means the film is acceptable for general viewing, but some parts might be unsuitable for small children.

This part of the movie and the rating means that a wide range of audiences are able to watch the movie. Especially as the books and films are children books and movies, it was vital that the production did not contain excessive violence, that would mean the certification would have to raised.

Legal Issues
there have been lots of  legal issues throughout the Harry Potter series, some have been accusing warner brothers of infringement and breaking of copyright laws.
