P4(b) Advertising

Advertising - The process of creating advertisements for products or services.

Purpose and meaning
Advertising is the process where Warner Bros will advertise and publicise new television programmes or movies. There are lots of methods used by large companies to advertise and promote their movies. They want to reach as big a market audiences as possible so they spend millions of dollars on advertising.

one way Warner Bros could promote there movie could be using  film trailers. These are small 'snippets' of a movie used to attract an audience.  trailers can distribute the film and ensure it gathers popularity before it has been shown. It's a big deal when deciding exactly how much to show through the snippets, as Warner Bros want to encourage people go and watch the movie, although it must not show major sections that show the outcome, as viewers may feel there is no point seeing it, if the main storyline has already been revealed.
one example of a harry potter trailers is  this video blow it shows small snippets of the movie.

Warner Bros could also use posters to promote the new movie. these posters can be used and placed on large billboards, as well as buses and other public transport. This advertises the production to a mass market of viewers, enticing many people to go and see the film.

Warner Bros will use large billboards to notify people of a brand new movie, going to bring in audiences, or trying to purchase the movie.

They should automatically see the font and log and link it to the movie if it is from a saga such as Harry Potter, so hopefully this means more people will notice the posters. plus well known characters and heroes should be visible in the posters to allow the audiences to recognise what the movie is.
Advertising in general will not have changed much in the last 20 years, although it has grow and become a massive business totalling to around £250 billion per year. a few years ago, newspapers and magazines would be the main advertising mediums, and this type of advertising is still done but now using billboards and film trailers more then magazines.

For Warner Bros I believe trailers to be the best way for them to advertise new movies. Most of the first world country populations have a television, and the majority of them will visit cinemas regularly.

Movie trailers also give the audience a better impression of a film, whereas a billboard would only display a single image, instead of a motion picture. The few minutes of trailer gives audiences information about the release dates, first reviews, as well as an introduction to the theme audiences will see throughout the film.

a variety of posters were produced for Harry Potter film saga, most official and a few unofficial. But all of them added to the advertising and marketing of the HarryPotter saga. including this, merchandise and paraphernalia have been produced to increase the bond between fans and the movies. The merchandise sales continue to bring in revenue for warner bros each day,

also warner bros now run a study tour for  fans it allows them to visit the stages the Harry Potter was filmed at and also view the original props used. These additional experiences offered by the studio further the advertising of Harry Potter they advertise this experience on television adverts when the Studio Tour brings out a new  range of sets and attractions available for fans to experience.

Universal Studies have recently purchased rights to build a Harry Potter theme park, which includes building a small scale replica of Hogwarts School, also Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. This new park is a good opportunity for Harry Potter to be marketed once again

Social media/Internet advertising

the Facebook page is an example of cross media 1.09 billion everyday login into Facebook this is large amount of people and the demographic which login are aged between 12-30 this is the main target market of the harry potter movies This is why warner bros created a Harry Potter page that can be viewed and followed by all of the 1.25 billion people on Facebook this is a huge market and these people can follow the harry potter franchise and it allow warners bros to cheaply advertise to this large market and it keeps people up to date of new movies and new trailers.
